A couple of weeks ago, Nico Rosberg advised Kimi Antonelli to sign for Williams for a year before going to Mercedes. During the Miami GP weekend, rumors of James Vowles applying for a special request to allow Antonelli to race came around. As Logan Sargeant’s seat is endangered, he could potentially be exposed to some suffering after the Williams TP publicly threatened the American’s seat on the team.

After a disappointing rookie year in 2023, Logan Sargeant’s career in F1 was doubted. However, James Vowles and Co. decided to give him another chance in 2024. His season isn’t exactly going well, with multiple crashes and no points to his name, Sargeant is dead last in the Driver’s championship. And things only seem to be getting worse for the American.

Williams brought an upgrade package for the Imola GP. Unfortunately, they could only manage to get it for one car and decided to put it on Alex Albon‘s car and not Sargeant’s. The American, who is trying to prove his point and keep his seat at Williams, must find it difficult when his teammate gets the upgrade but he does not. Also, at the Australian GP, because of Albon’s crash that damaged the chassis, Sergeant had to sit out the race as Williams decided to give his chassis to the Thai driver.

And coming into the Imola GP, James Vowles warned Sargeant to improve his performances as the team decided on the driver lineup for 2025. Vowles’ said, “The simple matter of fact is that he (Sargeant) is at risk, but it is in his hands to perform. We are talking to other drivers, but it’s up to him to perform, and we will have news in the coming weeks.”

Alex Albon suffered a power unit issue in FP1 at Imola and hence the upgrades on his car weren’t of much use to collect the data.  And to add to Sargeant’s misery, James Vowles is currently looking at a potential candidate for that 2025 seat. Could Kimi Antonelli be it?

James Vowles evaluates Kimi Antonelli as a possible Logan Sargeant replacement

Alex Albon’s contract extension with Williams was announced a few days ago. It’s a long-term multi-year contract that will see the Thai driver on the team for the foreseeable future. As a result, when Vowles talks about driver pairing, it is to decide who will be pairing Albon. As Williams considers Kimi Antonelli as their 2025 driver, Logan Sargeant’s seat is put at risk.

Explaining how Antonelli will not race for Williams in Imola, and it’s just Williams evaluating the future option, James Vowles said “There was a rumor going around that he’ll be in the car from Imola – he won’t be in the car for Imola. What we’re doing at the moment is evaluating drivers for ‘26 and ‘25, and what we really want is the right driver pairing for those two years, as when you go through regulation changes [as the sport will do in 2026] you don’t want to be changing drivers, so you’re looking for the right pairing for that period of time.”

What do you think? Will Logan Sargeant be able to save his seat?
