Is Red Bull's dominance in F1 a result of skill or shady tactics by Christian Horner?

It’s odd to see Red Bull‘s performance deteriorate with every race. They expected to be the most dominant team this year as well. The way both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez gave the 2024 campaign a headstart, falling behind Red Bull, looked inevitable. However, the first blow came in the Australian GP. The energy drink brand’s team faced a major setback with Verstappen’s DNF. However, they redeemed themselves. But the unexpected began happening post-Spanish GP.

A series of disappointments had already begun for Perez, who found his performance at its lowest. However, Verstappen continued to take the team ahead, until Austria. Since that fateful day on the Austrian circuit, the Dutchman’s Red Bull has been in bad shape. And it looks like the ex-Ferrari boss, Peter Windsor, has discovered the reason.

The F1 pundit claims to have identified the reason behind Christian Horner and Co.’s dip. Windsor affirmed on his X handle that Red Bull was using cross-brake inertia valves on the rear brakes of its cars. The FIA might have asked the team to remove this setup before the Miami GP. And that was when they started experiencing various issues like brake failure in Melbourne and turning struggles in China.

The F1 fans expressed their thoughts and grievances in this matter. They are now raising questions against Red Bull. “Why is it always the same team?” the fans are asking. Now the question is: will Christian Horner come up before the audience to explain? Maybe yes (most unlikely). Now let’s see what the fans had to say.

Fans weigh in on F1 pundit’s major Red Bull claims

A series of questions and statements have flooded Peter Windsor’s X handle post. Someone has stated it’s always the same team. Why did they say so? Previously, Red Bull has found itself at the center of several statements from other teams. Remember when Sergio Perez continued in the Canadian GP, despite a damaged read wing? Many had raised their concerns about this strange and risky strategy. And it looks like fans aren’t denying the F1 pundit’s claims.

Have an interesting take?

Following Mercedes‘ performance in Montreal’s tricky weather, Christian Horner and Co. allegedly filed a complaint against the Silver Arrows. Red Bull accused Mercedes of ‘unfair’ use of flexi-wings. After this incident surfaced, fans called out the Austrian team’s ‘audacity’. This means fans want to understand how they accused other teams when they have been faulty for a long time.

Another fan directly called the usage of cross-brake valves illegal. The FIA calls it illegal, so they are declaring it unauthorized. Many claim that Max Verstappen’s RB20 caught fire in the right rear wheel after they removed the special brakes. Some have even called the incident “mysterious” and “suspicious”. However, Red Bull supporters condemn the term ‘illegal’ because the “rule isn’t proven.”

Fans are also recalling the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Red Bull and Max Verstappen had been accused of “cheating” in the race. Ultimately, the Dutchman had won his first championship. But the aftermath was ugly. The alleged questionable safety car situation outraged f1 fans. Even in this new rumor/allegation, supporters feel, Red Bull is ‘cheating’ and getting away with it.

Meanwhile, Red Bull has become one of the slower cars of the top-tier teams. Initially, what looked like a reiteration of the last two seasons turned into a nightmare. McLaren has been the toughest competitor so far. Ferrari was doing well, but they too dropped. On the other hand, Mercedes has been catching up. Lewis Hamilton already has two wins in the season, making him the only driver other than Verstappen to win more than one race.

However, Peter Windsor’s claims haven’t been confirmed. In this case, accusing Red Bull of foul play would be unfair towards them. At the same time, we can research what a cross-brake inertia valve is used for. Most importantly, we must know if it is illegal or not.

If yes, then why?
