Oscar Piastri is living rent-free in the heads of Alpine employees. The Aussie’s first F1 experience came when he was a reserve driver for Alpine. But ever since he denied the Enstone outfit’s public announcement on X (previously Twitter), wherein they announced him as Fernando Alonso’s replacement for 2023, a meme for the ages was born. History nearly repeated on Friday in Zandvoort when Alpine announced Jack Doohan as Esteban Ocon’s replacement for 2025.
Immediately after their announcement, social media was flooded with F1 fans reminding Alpine of Piastri’s tweet. However, the French team was already ready with a counter-tweet even before this wave began. “We understand that… 🧐”, they wrote on X before the Doohan confirmation, mirroring Piastri’s viral tweet, which went: “I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.”
Nonetheless, the mockery from fans commenced and only increased. Eventually, the Alpine social media admin had enough after one user hilariously asked: “did this one actually sign the contract? 😭” Alpine replied to his tweet rather succinctly: “Good one. And yes.”

However, the influx of memes and tweets only intensified because Doohan and Piastri also share the same nationality. But now that it’s been a day that the Alpine driver hasn’t launched a counter-response, the French team is good to continue with their plans. Alpine’s celebrity owners are already overjoyed.

Alpine Owner & NFL Star Patrick Mahomes celebrates Jack Doohan’s F1 promotion
In 2023, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes joined an Otro Capital consortium that invested $218 million into Alpine. His Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce and Ryan Reynolds aka Deadpool were also part of it. Naturally, they might have had a head-start compared to the common folk when it came to knowing about Doohan’s promotion.
“I am so happy to secure promotion into a full-time race seat in 2025 with BWT Alpine F1 Team,” Doohan wrote on X, adding, “I am very grateful for the trust and belief by the team’s senior management.” Mahomes, who is making headlines for his wife’s response over a Donald Trump post, seemed more excited than Doohan himself. “Lets Go!!! Congrats Man!💪🏽💪🏽”, the 3x Super Bowl champ wrote for his team’s newest driver on Instagram.

Doohan’s promotion, which comes under the command of new Team Principal Oliver Oakes, isn’t a surprise. The 21-year-old has a stellar junior career behind him, including being runner-up in his F3 campaign with Hitech GP. The Aussie is also the son of 5-time MotoGP champion Mick Doohan, which just shows how motorsport runs in his blood. With his compatriot, Piastri, setting the debut performance bar high, will Doohan live up to the hype in 2025? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
