No one likes being left out of a conversation. But sometimes, you can’t help it. And, unfortunately for him, Pierre Gasly was left out of a conversation between teammate Esteban Ocon and Wrexham AFC owner Ryan Reynolds. But what did he miss, and how did Ocon and Reynolds even get in touch?

On Monday, Alpine received an investment of $218 million from a consortium consisting of actors Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Michael B. Jordan, alongside Otro Capital and Red Bird Capital Partners. With the investment, the investor group bought a 24% stake in the team. And Alpine driver Esteban Ocon took the opportunity to get in touch with one of his favorite superheroes, Deadpool – who is of course the cheeky Ryan Reynolds!

Pierre Gasly misses out on a huge opportunity

In an interview before this weekend’s Austrian GP, while discussing the investment his team received, Gasly talked about Reynolds too. As quoted by mirror.co.uk, he said, “I must admit I am personally a fan of [Reynolds] and his work. He is definitely one of my favorite actors and yeah, definitely super excited to meet him at some point during the season.”

While he expressed his excitement to meet the Deadpool actor, his teammate had already made plans with Reynolds. Speaking to Autosport, Ocon said, “I was extremely lucky to be able to chat on Tuesday with Ryan. We exchanged a couple of WhatsApps together.” Considering the deal was finalized only on Monday, Ocon wasted no time to get in touch with Reynolds and share his love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which Deadpool is a part of) with him. Owing to this conversation, Esteban revealed that “[Reynolds invited him] on the set in London for the Deadpool movie, so I’m definitely going to be going.”

Given that Gasly, too, is a fan of Reynolds’ MCU character, he missed out on a golden opportunity to get inside access to the world of Marvel productions. With Deadpool 3 set to release only in 2024, production will continue for some time. Between now and then, Pierre will (hopefully) have multiple meetings with Ryan to express his love for him and the MCU, too, and get an invitation for himself as well.

When Esteban heard about the partnership with Ryan Reynolds, he wasted no time getting acquainted. The first thing he did was send a picture of him from the simulator to Reynolds, which he seemed to like. Considering the exchange of phone numbers and the WhatsApp conversation that followed, the picture seemed to tip the score in favor of Ocon. Esteban: 1; Pierre: 0.

In their WhatsApp conversation, according to Ocon, Reynolds said he looks forward to learning from the F1 world and seeing how things work there. And then Ocon expressed his passion for the MCU, and the balance tipped further to his side and earned him an invite to the set of Deadpool 3. Esteban: 2; Pierre: 0.

From the looks of it, Ocon is the favorite at the moment. What do you think?
