At the Australian GP, Oscar Piastri was caught doing something absurd and hilarious at the same time which made fans take over the internet to give the Australian a reality check for the “stupid mistake” he made last year.

Oscar Piastri’s transfer saga last season caused quite a stir around the paddock. Fernando Alonso announced his surprise move to Aston Martin shortly after Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement. This situation meant Alpine had to look for a driver to partner with Esteban Ocon for 2023. The French team prematurely announced Oscar Piastri as their new driver for 2023 without a contract in place. Little did Alpine know, Piastri was already in talks with McLaren over a seat for 2023, which led to the Australian putting a tweet out, denying any contract possibilities with Alpine.

Whilst many may say McLaren is a bigger and better team than Alpine, the 2023 season has told a different story so far. McLaren has been struggling to score points and is amongst the backmarkers. If it had not been for the last 5 lap mayhem at the Australian GP, McLaren still might not have any points to their name. A Tweet recently surfaced where Oscar Piastri can be seen signing a physical copy of the Alpine transfer blunder tweet that he posted. The incident happened when a fan asked Piastri to sign it during the Australian GP weekend.

Piastri must be left wondering whether McLaren was a better choice after looking at McLaren’s performance in comparison to Alpine. What could’ve been if he signed with Alpine? Many believe it was a stupid mistake made by Piastri when he decided to make a move to McLaren rather than choosing Alpine. Some pointed out how Alpine is so much faster than what McLaren is possible of at the moment. Here’s how the fans reacted:

Many pointed out how Alpine qualified P9 and P11 at Albert Park whereas Piastri is near the back, qualifying P16.

Some also made fun of McLaren’s performance and Piastri’s team choice by mentioning how the Australian prefers signing tweets rather than contracts and that he needs Alpine more than Alpine needed him back then

And then there were people mentioning the fact that Alpine must be laughing now, looking down at McLaren wondering what was going on inside Piastri’s mind.

However, McLaren has managed to pull back some ground on Alpine as they finished P6 and P8 aided by the fact that both Alpines crashed into each other. Will McLaren be able to make a comeback this season?
