Pierre Gasly has been on a journey of sorts in Formula One. In the space of two years, he got promoted to Red Bull, demoted to AlphaTauri, and became the first French race winner in 24 years in Monza last season.
With an upturn in his form, there’s been talk of the Frenchman moving to a different team. One such rumor had him joining Alpine F1 in 2022. Alpine F1’s CEO, Laurent Rossi, provided an update on their driver situation.

After an impressive 2020, which included a race win in Monza, many believed Pierre Gasly would regain his Red Bull seat in 2021. However, that seat went to Sergio Perez in the wake of his impressive season with Racing Point.
In recent days, links of Gasly moving to Alpine have been rife. However, Alpine’s CEO, Laurent Rossi, cleared the air on their stance with Gasly.
“We’re not looking at any drivers for next year,” said Rossi. “Pierre is obviously a great driver of value, but at the moment, this is not on the cards, I would say.”

Rossi stressed on how keen Alpine were to retain Esteban Ocon in 2022. This season, Ocon picked up from where he left off after 2020, outscoring his experienced teammate, Fernando Alonso.
With a good run of form, Rossi believes Ocon is definitely in the French team’s plans for 2022. He said, “Esteban is doing everything to make me consider keeping him in the team. I would be remiss if I didn’t think about it.
“At the moment, I’m considering obviously Esteban as we mentioned earlier on, [and] Fernando is here next year with us. So if we want to carry on on the momentum we have, we’ll do that.”
