Alpine Racing are among the teams that F1 enthusiasts are most looking forward to this season. Veteran Fernando Alonso has returned to the fold alongside Esteban Ocon, which will also add some competitive intrigue.
Both drivers have had experience driving in events such as the Le Mans and Monte Carlo Rally. But the team’s new CEO Laurent Rossi has said that their drivers’ attention will be primarily invested in the brand’s F1 venture.
Rossi stated, “At the moment they are focused on Formula 1 and only on Formula 1. That is a lot of work.” (translated via Google Translate)

Not mixing the two series at the moment, said Alpine CEO Rossi
“We’re not ruling out the possibility that some of them might pull out under certain circumstances at some point, but at the moment we’re not mixing the two series.
“We cannot afford to create something like a distraction for the drivers. If it turns out to be feasible, we could consider it, but that’s not the plan today.”
Having made his rally debut last winter, Ocon has expressed an interest to drive in the famed Le Mans competition as well. But as parent brand Renault undergoes an F1 overhaul, the young Frenchman will play a crucial role in guiding Alpine’s standing in the sport.
Ocon added his thoughts and said, “Our target is definitely Formula 1, and 200 percent of that. That’s what we fought for.
“But yes, if the opportunity comes one day, and then we discuss it the plan with Alpine, then maybe, but it’s not what we’re focusing on now.”
The French team’s efforts will lie in fighting for P3 this season
Last year, the Renault cars faced varied mechanical inconsistencies. This did not allow the RS-20 cars to enable their full potential up until the midway mark of the season.

However, following Daniel Ricciardo’s podium at the Nurburgring, the team came alive in a late charge for P3 in the standings. Despite his efforts and Ocon himself landing a podium, it was not enough, and they ultimately finished fifth.
