The 2023 season has been a rollercoaster ride for every team except Red Bull. While the Bulls have been consistently dominating the field, a testament to this being the fact that they have won every single Grand Prix this season, the others have faced a topsy-turvy fortune. A prime example of this is the all-French team, Alpine. With Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon on board, the team has shown immense promise but has most recently faltered.
Rewinding back to the Monaco GP, Esteban Ocon was on the podium. A string of stellar results soon followed. However, recently, the team and its out-and-out pace have been in the doldrums. That being said, they do seem to have an expensive ace up their sleeves.

Teams like McLaren have brought major updates to their cars and it has paid off. And that is exactly what Alpine boss Otmar Szafnauer is counting on. As it turns out, they, too have gone on an aggressive upgrading spree.
Szafnauer was quoted by F1 Maximaal as saying, “I hope that will also help, bringing another shift in relative competitiveness. So yes, looking forward to our next upgrade. There is an upgrade in Hungary, but not that big. Then there is a floor in Spa.” [translated via Google Translate]
In today’s day and age, a new floor costs at least $131,000.
And it isn’t just the boss who is hyping these changes up.

Silverstone was another big disappointment for the French team. Both their cars failed to even cross the finish line come last Sunday’s race. However, Gasly is optimistic to see his and his team’s fortunes change as soon as the upgrades come.
GPBlog.com quoted him as saying, “We got upgrades and I don’t think it’s the right thing looking at what others have done. We just need to make steps. There is no secret. We’ve got to improve our package and that’s what we will all be working on. We already got stuff coming in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, it will make a difference.”
