Pierre Gasly scored his first point of the season, but it did not come easy for him. He performed ever since the qualifiers and made it into the top 10, and his teammate started the race right behind him at P11. However, during the first lap, Esteban Ocon decided to attack his teammate’s position at the Le Portier concern, and that’s when things went wrong.

Ocon ended up taking a risk and attacking his teammate prematurely, causing contact between the two drivers. While Pierre Gasly did not suffer the major consequences of the contract, Ocon certainly did. The contact caused the #31 car to launch its rear into the air, causing major flood damage upon its landing. After the incident that retired Ocon, the team principal hinted at replacing the driver.

Bruno Famin, the team principal of Alpine, was unhappy with the unnecessary incident that reduced a driver for the team on the grid. Esteban Ocon has been known for his aggressive driving, which has impaired the results of races in the past. Famin spoke about the inappropriate overtake and stated that “there will be appropriate consequences.”

Posing a threat to Ocon’s seat, Famin stated, “We are going to make a difficult decision.” Following the Monaco GP, the French team principal was found talking to Jack Doohan, the Alpine reserve driver. The Australian driver finished competing in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship and finished 3rd in the drivers championship.

Before working with Alpine, he was being prepped for F1 on the Red Bull Junior team, and Ocon’s performance has made the team consider giving him the spotlight for the rest of the season. Because of the incident, Ocon was initially given a 10-second penalty, but that was soon changed to become a 5-position grid penalty at the next Grand Prix.

Although there is no official statement from Famin to bring in Dooham, there are very few reasons not to. While Ocon has been on the grid for a few seasons already, Jack Dooham is a promising driver. Last year, he was competing with Oliver Bearman, the upcoming Ferrari driver, and let’s see how he fared against him.

Jack Doohan, son of MotoGP champion Mick Doohan, has been part of the Alpine Academy since 2022 after leaving the Red Bull junior academy. He finished third in the 2023 F2 championship, three places above Oliver Bearman, and achieved comparable success to Liam Lawson in the 2022 F2 season.

Despite being the reserve driver for Alpine in 2024, he’s not currently racing in any series but is engaged in developing the team’s car and simulator. Alpine’s team principal, Bruno Famin, believes it’s too early to determine if Doohan is ready for an F1 drive. But after Ocon’s recent incident, there is a chance that Famin will consider bringing in Doohan to test if he is ready for the rest of the season.
