This was proved once again by Esteban Ocon as he jumped on the Le Mans hype train as well, like his compatriots.
24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most prestigious races in the world of motorsport. Every driver who gets the privilege of adding the race to their CV does not take it lightly and only a few win it. In fact, the endurance race is so enticing it is on the list of many F1 drivers with Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso prime examples. Now, even the Alpine man has joined the hype train.

Despite facing a lot of uncertainty in the world of F1, Ocon persisted and secured himself a regular drive in the circus. Now considered the best on the grid, Ocon has proved his worth time and again for the French team. However, when asked what other racing series, he expressed the desire he shares with Verstappen and 2018 and 2019 Le Mans winner Alonso.

“One day. Never say never, but right now I’m obviously fully focused on Formula 1. It is clear that Le Mans is a phenomenal race and it would be cool if they could schedule it between F1 races,” he explained his perspective on Le Mans. “If one F1 driver makes the switch, many will follow. It’s something for the future now.”
Ocon is now part of the growing list of F1 drivers who want to test their mettle in the reputed racing series. However, Ocon is still a few steps away from realizing his dream whereas the likes of Verstappen and Fernando Alonso are already in advanced discussions.

The Dutchman has expressed his desire to race in the endurance series on multiple occasions in his life after F1. He already takes part in the virtual endurance races and is extremely invested as well. However, his sights are set on the real deal and his post-F1 ambitions are public knowledge. Although he needs a partner in Le Mans and he’s already convincing Alonso to be his partner in crime.
Speaking on Honda’s racing day, he said, “I’ve been speaking to Fernando about it. He said he would only want to do it with me again. That would be really cool. The only thing is that for Le Mans, there is not really a weight limit for the driver. I’m quite a heavy driver, so I need to find a light teammate to compensate. But Fernando is quite light, so will be quite good. But Then we’ll need to find another one, so I need to have a look.”
