When you think of Daniel Ricciardo, you would usually assume him to be a happy-go-lucky fellow, always smiling and ready to make his acting debut. But would you consider using Honey Badger and Godfather in one sentence? As unlikely as this duo seems, a recent story revealed by Natalie Pinkham tells the reason behind her choosing Ricciardo as her daughter’s Godfather.
Often known to be a PR expert, the last thing any fan would assume Ricciardo to be is a Godfather. Not because on paper he doesn’t seem to be deserving enough to be one, but instead since he’s unmarried and it’s somewhat unlikely to assume him as Godparent to a child, at his age. However, Natalie Pinkham’s amazing story gives us a real reflection on who the true Daniel Ricciardo is.

Natalie Pinkham, often considered one of the faces of Sky Sports F1, recently made a guest appearance on the Pitstop podcast. While the episode goes into a bunch of topics, such as Pinkham’s journey in F1, amazing stories, and much more, one stood as an interesting surprise. That happens to be the story about how the AlphaTauri driver, Daniel Ricciardo, ended up as the Godfather to her child.
Pinkham shared her thoughts regarding selecting a Godparent, by stating, “And you know what, the little story behind that is that we couldn’t decide who make godparents for our kids, right, and so we decided, my husband and I decided we would wait 6 months, and see who made the most effort with Wilf. Because sometimes you make godparents out of sort of legacy friends and then you kind of regret it. Because you go, they don’t really care about the kid, you know.”
Explaining why Ricciardo was the chosen one as the Godfather to her child, she further added, “Without a shadow of a doubt, he made the most effort. He’d be like can I come over and I’m like actually I’m not there, [Ricciardo] I’m actually coming to see Wilf. I promise you, the man is just, anything you think you know about Daniel [Ricciardo] and his kindness and his, you know, compassion and obviously we all know that he’s an incredible racer and a great lad, like a good laugh, but it’s the kindness, that I don’t think a lot of people realize how deep that is.”
And if you’re wondering how these two started their friendship, don’t worry, Pinkham revealed that story as well. She added, “He and I started F1 at the same time. And then, I used to say to him, when I needed a ticket for my then-boyfriend, now husband, I used to say to Daniel, Wiggy needs a ticket and he’d be like yeah yeah, he can come with me, and then they hit it off. So, it’s almost like they’re better mates, than I am with him.”

Who would’ve guessed that the former Red Bull driver would make such a good Godfather? For now, his focus might be on the RB seat, but perhaps after his journey in F1 is over, he can focus on parenthood. I’m sure that the world wouldn’t mind a baby Ricciardo.
Ricciardo & Pinkham, a friendship born due to F1
It’s not very often that you find a friendship between an F1 driver and a TV presenter. However, Daniel Ricciardo and Natalie Pinkham seem to have broken that barrier gracefully. With their F1 careers starting at somewhat the same time, perhaps both of them becoming friends was bound to be.
