Daniel Ricciardo rocked a helmet which boldly stated ‘stop being them’ after he left Red Bull for Renault. While his helmet’s implications were the talk of the town during the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, Ricciardo expressed it was more to do with personal freedom, he stated, ‘If you like going a certain way, then be bold and do it”
But we didn’t think The Honey Badger meant he was going to be bold quite literally! He’s recently been on a media spree owing to Formula 1’s visit to the entertainment capital of the world. But none of Las Vegas’ glitz and glamour caught Drew Barrymore’s attention more than Daniel Ricciardo’s bold antics and wholesome revelations!

After hanging out with Jimmy Kimmel and visiting Caleb Pressley, the Australian made his way to The Drew Barrymore Show and enjoyed taking a backseat as the host got behind the wheel to hear about Ricciardo’s wholesome dreams and his wildest adventures.
Ricciardo also took a look back at some of his most memorable off-track shenanigans when the Red Light Confessions segment of the show came around. He read the card, which said, “Have you ever been naked in a car? – and confessed, “Yeah.” to which Drew Barrymore replied, “Me too”. The two exchanged awkward laughter as Ricciardo shied away from the conversation.
The Honey Badger is sure used to his fair share of adventure, and alluded to having a close call, “I may have got a knock on the window once”. This sparked curiosity within the host who asked, “Were you changing or were you alone or were you with somebody?” the sneaky Honey Badger dodged any trouble, “Uh, I was changing, definitely changing”.
The pair had a blast together, with Drew Barrymore even partaking in Ricciardo’s infamous podium celebration by drinking champagne out of her shoe. Never would we have expected to see the Iconic host do a shoey with the Honey Badger! However, there are two clear sides to the Australian, and whilst the fun one is great, the serious side is equally caring.
Ricciardo reflects on ‘caring’ childhood that saved Oscar Piastri in Zandvoort
The two spoke extensively about the fear of motorsports and how Ricciardo’s mother chose to support his happiness over harboring her fear of what could go wrong on a race track. He also recalled how mischievous he used to be as a child, even throwing things out of cars and at people. Talk about being a nuisance! But things took a serious turn as the topic of the fateful day in Zandvoort came up.
Ricciardo reflected on his crash during the Dutch GP, where the AlphaTauri driver chose to crash into the barriers instead of hitting a stranded Oscar Piastri. And he credited his decision to care for others before himself to his upbringing. He shared, “I grew up in like a very caring, affectionate household. So family time is really important.” This prompted Barrymore to chime in, “What about you? do you want a family?”

The Honey Badger was a little hesitant, “Yeah, I would like to.” But he recollected himself, “Why I hesitated a bit with answering it is my job. I travel so much that I would want to be there. I guess like I don’t want to miss things growing up. I feel like once my life settles if it ever does, that would be a more appropriate time.”
It’s no surprise that Ricciardo is vigilant about how busy an F1 driver’s schedule gets. Having a family while aiming for a return to Red Bull would be a difficult task, perhaps even harder than pleasing Helmut Marko thoroughly.
