Honda are hardly months away from bowing out of Formula 1 after a brief stay partnering McLaren, AlphaTauri, and Red Bull. The official announcement arrived in 2020 despite the fact that Red Bull were looking quite competitive against eventual title clinchers, Mercedes.

And since Honda affirmed their withdrawal from the sport, Red Bull further upped their game, and are on the verge of securing their first constructor’s title since 2013. Hence, amidst such an incredible phase for the Milton Keynes outfit, are Honda really happy with the approaching exit from F1?

Well, Scuderia AlphaTauri’s team principal, Franz Tost, revealed that quite a few faces in Honda are not satisfied with the decision to leave Formula 1.

What did the AlphaTauri boss say?

As reported by GPBlog, the Austrian affirmed that there are still disagreements persisting within Honda. “Whether Honda will come back or not I don’t know,” he said.

I can’t speak in the name of the management, or the board at Honda, but there are some people – or some managers – who are satisfied and happy to do Formula 1. And others who think that the company should go in another direction.

Yes, Honda are leaving the sport. But, many are still wondering whether this decision will remain forever. Well, not at all. In fact, there is a significant chance that Honda could return to working with Red Bull, but not before 2026 where F1 will be launching its new engine era.

Can Red Bull offer a sound farewell to Honda?

Honda have certainly been the game-changer in Red Bull’s recent performance gain. And on top of that, Honda have also secured their customer’s future by handing over their own engine design.

Hence, with the Japanese manufacturers playing such a hefty role, can Red Bull deliver the one thing that Honda are yearning for? Well, as of now, winning the constructor’s title seems a bit too far-fetched, especially with Valtteri Bottas being a consistent performer in recent weeks, unlike Sergio Perez.

However, with respect to the driver’s championship, Honda can lay their full faith in Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has been at the top of his game since the start of this season, as he had been waiting for this opportunity since his debut in 2016.

So, will Verstappen manage to deliver one final gift to Honda before their withdrawal from F1?
