Ever since he stepped foot in F1, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso haven’t gotten along well. The two were teammates in 2007 when Hamilton was a rookie. However, the term “teammate” turned out to be just a namesake as they quickly turned into the fiercest rivals. Since then, their careers have taken completely different trajectories, but the habit of taking digs at each other did not go away. The Spaniard recently did exactly that but contradicted himself after the Qualifying result in Australia put his old nemesis ahead of him. The apparent double standards haven’t gone down well with the LH Army, which took the Spaniard to the task.

After witnessing Red Bull’s superior race pace this season, Lewis praised them for putting up a car that was the fastest he claimed to have ever seen. The comment did not please Alonso, who reminded him of his dominant era, which he claims was bigger than Red Bull. The Aston Martin driver also talked about Hamilton’s weaknesses being exposed in a “normal car”. However, after the qualifying results, he changed his stance on the car but continued his crusade against his former teammate.

With some unexpected heroics in qualifying, George Russell (P2) and Lewis Hamilton (P3) placed themselves in the perfect position to challenge Max Verstappen for the win tomorrow. Witnessing them finish ahead of him, Alonso tracked back on his words that dubbed Mercedes as a “normal car”.

Speaking post-qualifying, he said, “Mercedes have a quick car. If you listen to their comments, it sounds like they have a car that goes out in Q1, but they are quick.” Also present with him during the interview, fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz said, “I agree.”

Take a look at how Mercedes fans reacted to their comments.
