Ferrari are looking like the team to beat going into the 2022 season. They were the most impressive team of the 2021 season as they jumped from P6 to P3 in the championship standings. They will continue to supply their engines to Haas and Alfa Romeo for the next season as well. Interestingly, Alfa Romeo technical director Jon Monchaux mentioned it is unlikely that they will be on par with the Italian team.

Despite supplying the same engines to their customer teams, there is a vast difference in terms of performance between them. Monchaux stated if the supplying team distributes the same equipment, then there will not be any difference between them and the customer team.

Alfa Romeo technical director takes a dig at Ferrari engines

As reported by Motorsport. tr, the Swiss team technical head mentioned if the supplier follows the regulations and stays transparent, then there won’t be any differences. He believes if the same equipment is provided, then the customer team can beat the supplying team.

“Personally, yes, I think it’s possible. On paper, you can certainly do that. By regulations, engine manufacturers must supply all customer teams with exactly the same equipment and exactly the same engine type. If the supplier follows the rules and is transparent enough, then why can’t a midfield team do a great job compared to the top teams?” said the Alfa Romeo technical head.

But can a team in the middle group suddenly take a big step forward at the start of the season? It’s certainly possible,”
