The much-awaited announcement from Alfa Romeo Racing has finally arrived, as they officially revealed the launch date for the 2022 challenger, C42. One might assume that the unveiling might happen a day or two prior to the first winter testing in Barcelona, much like most of their rivals.
However, here’s the twist! The unveiling is neither happening before the testing nor during the testing. It is instead two days after the testing. Surprising, isn’t it? Well, that seems to be the case, as Alfa Romeo, on Wednesday, affirmed that the covers will officially come off C42 on February 27.

Alfa Romeo set to endure a repeat of 2021?
One might reckon this is a brave move by Alfa Romeo. Why? You might ask. Well, only last year, the Sauber-led outfit found the images of their 2021 challenger leaked on social media barely a night before the official launch event.
And there is no guarantee that this might not recur in 2022, especially considering the fact that the C42 will hit the track for three straight days in Spain before being publicly revealed.
Of course, the first testing will take place behind closed doors with no media allowed inside the paddock over the three-day period. However, there is always the chance that an image or two might somehow make its way to social media. So, it will be quite interesting to see how F1 manages to contain such confidential details from leaking out of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

It starts with Aston Martin! The historic racing outfit will unveil the AMR22 on February 10 followed by McLaren’s MCL36 on February 11. Following the two back-to-back events, AlphaTauri will bring the AT03 to the spotlight on February 14.
On February 17, Ferrari’s recently named F1-75 will be unwrapped as their rivals, Mercedes, will host their launch event a day later. Two of the latest announcements have been from Alpine and Alfa Romeo. While the former will launch the A522 on February 22, the latter, as mentioned earlier, will uncover the C42 on February 27.
