One of the most promising Red Bull drivers when he started his career, Alex Albon, is now in Williams. The team showed a lot of confidence in the driver while renewing his contract, but so far, he has 0 points on the table. The once-dominant team is now struggling to get a single point in the constructor’s championship.
To make things more difficult, Alex Albon has already had two crashes, which is only damaging the team further. The crashes have been expensive for the team, but they are still under the record-breaking damages caused by Mick Schumacher during his time with Haas. So just exactly how much did Albon’s crashes cost?

The last two races have not been so great for the Thai driver, as he has had two DNFs in a row. Having zero points in 4 races is devastating, but what’s worse is when the car has been wrecked twice. A recent report stated that the total cost borne by Williams to fix the FW46 chassis is over $2 million.

The cost to the team is alarmingly high, and with the performance he has been putting out, it might not seem like it will be worth it to the team. Mick Schumacher is known to have cost Haas around $5 million in damages, which did hurt a small-budget team, which further led to former team principal Guenther Steiner discontinuing the driver in 2023, but that’s not an option for Williams. There are still 20 races left, which is a long way to go, and there are many chances of accidents; hopefully, the driver avoids them.
Williams might look another way after 2025 if Alex Albon fails to bring in some points and push the team into the midfield. Currently, that’s the team’s priority, and on the other hand, Logan Sargent, the second driver for Williams, is suffering at 0 points too. Sargent had to sacrifice his car during the Australian Grand Prix in a wreck started by Albon during FP1. But the talk surrounds how Alex Albon managed to rack up such a bill.
How did Alex Albon wreck the FW46 twice?
Between the two crashes so far, the one in Melbourne was the hardest, with the car damaging its chassis. This was highly problematic, as the team had to retire the car for the race with only one driver on the track. Despite taking Sargent’s car, Albon didn’t manage to score any points for the team. This not only cost the team around a million dollars, but it was all in vain as the total points for the team still rest at 0.

While the FP1 at the Australian Grand Prix was Alex Albon’s fault, the Japanese GP was a different story. Alex Albon lost control of his car after colliding with Daniel Ricciardo. Now, who started this wreck? It has many theories. However, both drivers involved in the accident desperately needed points in the race, as the score was still 0 for them in the driver’s championship.

Loss after loss, the team is suffering as neither the car nor the drivers are doing justice to the legacy that Williams has set during the early years of Formula 1. With that said, do you think the Chinese Grand Prix will be where some points will be scored? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
