If we are to single out the most unreliable car on the grid currently, hardly any come close to the McLaren MCL60. McLaren’s 2023 challenger has been completely off the pace so far but shows bursts of performance on some tracks. However, consistency is what Mclaren needs to get back to winning at least the midfield battle instead of a “temperamental” car according to CEO Zak Brown. Although, Oscar Piastri is sure of one aspect of the car that will come in handy in Canada.

Last month, Brown exposed the temperamental qualities of the MCL60 to justify the underwhelming performances. However, the scenario in Monaco revealed a unique aspect of the McLaren challenger. The scenario has apparently become common knowledge in the Woking-based outfit’s garage. This is exactly why when asked about the expectations from the weekend by the media, Piastri used the same reasoning for his hopeful response.

According to the Formula 1 website, Oscar told the media, “It’s obviously raining a lot now and this is probably what it’s going to be like tomorrow. Our car generally likes it when it’s cold and meek conditions and stuff like that, so we’ll see. But we’ll obviously drive with whatever the weather throws at us. which is quite a lot at the moment.”

Now the cold and damp conditions aren’t favorable for any team unless you’re McLaren. This scenario came to light after the rain-soaked last stint in Monaco, a stint that Lando Norris loved. Although, is this sustainable? Absolutely not, which is why the CEO exposed this factor of the McLaren car while defending the performance.

Despite the confidence from Oscar Piastri, Zak Brown exposed various areas where the MCL60 is lacking

Piastri might be confident about the track conditions favoring the MCL60. However, not even a month ago, Zak Brown revealed the various aspects where their car is lacking. However, these comments by Brown can only be used as an excuse for the team’s shortcomings.

“I think race cars are temperamental in their characteristics. Obviously, the great race cars are good in all conditions. We have a car that doesn’t like the heat. It is kind of rear-limited. Miami was hard. It was a new circuit. And it lacked some grip, as a new circuit would. So Miami was a circuit kind of like Bahrain, which kind of doesn’t suit our car,”  said Brown.

The real shock might come if the car doesn’t perform in the cold conditions in Canada as well. Then the team might not have a leg to stand on and they will have to accept their shortcomings.
