F1 witnessed a remarkable comeback as Daniel Ricciardo roared back into the spotlight at the Hungarian GP. After enduring a challenging stint with McLaren that culminated in an unexpected split, Ricciardo’s resurgence in his first race for AlphaTauri mid-season left fans and experts alike astounded. His dazzling performance, though not culminating in a top-10 grid position, has certainly sent a ripple of surprise and relief for Max Verstappen & Co.

Ricciardo’s return to the F1 arena after an 8-month hiatus was nothing short of triumphant. His positivity and enthusiasm shone through as he expressed how the comeback felt like a “relief” and brought the joy of racing back into his life. The Australian driver’s elation was evident as he shared his experience of feeling comfortable and at ease in the cockpit during the qualifying session. Though he faced disappointment in the F1 qualifying session at the Hungaroring, falling short of reaching Q3. Despite this, the 34-year-old managed to outperform his new teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, who faced elimination in Q1.

In the Chequered Flag podcast, motorsport journalist Andrew Benson praised Ricciardo’s solid performance, highlighting, “He’s given the team their best grid position for two months. He’s done it in his first Grand Prix back, and okay, he’s only beaten Tsunoda by a few thousand but he’s beaten Tsunoda, which is something De Vries only managed twice in 12 qualifying sessions this year so far. So I think it’s a really solid performance by Ricciardo. Exactly what Red Bull will have wanted and they will see this as complete justification for the decision they’ve made in sacking Nyck DeVries.”
