There is no team on the grid which has had a more surprising start to a season than McLaren, in a negative sense. The Papaya team has struggled from their first outing on the track in Bahrain. There were signs of rejuvenation in Australia and Baku. However, Miami came as a harsh reality check for McLaren as Lando Norris finished 17th and Oscar Piastri two places further down. This hugely disappointing result for the team has sparked the Woking-based outfit into overdrive. Moreover, the results of this wake-up call will come to light before the F1 summer break.
McLaren team boss Andrea Stella made this bold claim in a recent interview with Motorsport.com. The Italian boss talked about the brutal reality check the team received in Miami and discussed the massive upgrades coming to the car.

“We have received a reality check,” said team boss Andrea Stella. “At the moment the car just doesn’t work in those conditions and that gets annoying on these kinds of tracks.” (Translated by Google)

Lando Norris is growing tired of being patient with McLaren
The Brit has been the Woking outfit’s most loyal servant to date. Despite the Red Bull rumors, he will continue to do so until the end of the 2025 season. However, McLaren has started each of the last two seasons, including 2023, horribly. The team has then caught up with the rest of the field with consistent upgrades. However, speaking to the media, Norris is growing tired of staying patient with these delayed upgrades.

Norris said, “The plan, the work, everything’s still the same, it has been the whole year. We know where we’re bad, where we have to improve, and just have to be patient still. As much as I don’t want to be patient, we have to be patient.”

Norris will keep his head down and be patient until at least the British GP. However, despite promising huge changes, there is still no guarantee the car will be able to compete with the rest of the field. Especially in this ever-evolving nature of Formula 1.
