Fernando Alonso has had an eventful career in Formula 1. From coming on and beating Michael Schumacher to then being in search of his third title for 16 years. The man from Oviedo even hung his boots after the McLaren heartbreak but made a return in 2021. But having found his soulmate in the name of Aston Martin, he is the happiest he could have been. While his contract runs till the end of 2024, one cannot be too sure if he will bid adieu to the sport anytime soon. This observation is made considering he never intended a long stay at the apex of motor sporting.

Max Verstappen has always been pretty vocal about the fact that he doesn’t intend to race very long. Just a few years and then probably go on to live his life away from the track. Moreover, recent developments around tweaking the race format have pushed the Dutchman to say that he may leave sooner rather than later. Interestingly, the other double-world champion on the grid had similar early retirement plans.

In an interview with Bang & Olufsen, Alonso said even he doesn’t know until when will he stay around. He said, “I would also like to know. When I came to Formula 1, my idea was to be here for seven or eight years. Then I won both championships, and I thought maybe I would race one or two more years before leaving.”

Fernando said, “Now I have the longest race in the history of Formula 1. I’m still fresh. I’m still motivated and enjoying every day. I wake up in the morning happy with what I’m doing. I think I’ll have a few more years. Hopefully, I can be a contender. To the title in the future.”
