Formula 1 has quickly become a platform for raising a voice for the things that matter. It is a global platform that drivers like Lewis Hamilton have employed for the greater good. However, given the inherent nature of the sport, it has also become an organization people raise their voices against. For instance, according to the Daily Mail, the British GP may be visited by a swarm of at least 12,000 Just Stop Oil protestors.

Last year, protestors from the group invaded the Silverstone Circuit whilst the Grand Prix was in motion! Even though threatened with serious jail time, it appears that they have not learned their lesson after all. However, while welcoming their presence the drivers have also issued stern warnings.

Lewis Hamilton was recently quoted by Express UK as saying, “I welcome protesters or activists. Always they are pushing for positive change. We never want to see people standing on the track and putting themselves in harm’s way.” Now, fellow Brit, Lando Norris has decided to give his two cents on the possibility of a 2nd track invasion in two years.

Norris was quoted by  The Independent as saying, “Of course, it is a concern because is a stupid thing to do to put your life in danger with cars driving around. “It is also a very selfish thing to do because of the consequences it could have on the person that drives the car.”

But he does understand the sentiment behind the cause. “Everyone has a right to protest and I guess there are good ways of doing it and worse ways.” “I just hope people are smart enough not to do it. There are much safer ways to get just as much attention,” concluded the Brit.

The British GP is one of the most anticipated races on the F1 calendar this year. Naturally, hundreds of thousands will be in attendance. And for the sake of the fans, the safety of the drivers and the protestors themselves, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has launched a stern statement towards the Just Stop Oil protestors.

Speaking outside Downing Street, Domenicali said, “We are not here to dispute opinion on things – but (dispute) things that are getting dangerous. And destroying an event that 100,000 people come to I think is totally wrong. There are ways of doing what you want to do but this is totally unacceptable and I hope that people understand that there is not the space to find the right place,” as quoted by Mirror UK.
