The Canadian Grand Prix proved to be quite a tough one for Red Bull. The current Formula 1 Championship leaders got Max Verstappen to win the race in Montreal but their other recruit, Sergio Perez, failed to even finish it. And on top of that, the FIA stewards even levied a heavy penalty on Checo for driving a car in an unsafe condition. As a result, he will get a 3-place grid penalty at the upcoming Spanish GP. Recently, Helmut Marko dealt with the question of whether Red Bull deliberately asked Sergio Perez to not pull up by the side of the race track when they realized his car was damaged.
To this, the Austrian admitted that his team had asked Checo to come to the pits. But he explained it was due to a lack of knowledge about the damage. Amidst all this, the FIA levied a fine of €25,000 ($26,700) on Red Bull for allowing their Mexican recruit to keep driving a car in an unsafe condition. But Red Bull has refused to be the only one in the FIA’s bad books for its Canadian GP outing. The team has found a way to encourage the stewards to scrutinize Mercedes. But why does Red Bull want their rival from Stuttgart to come under the microscope of the FIA?

The FIA penalized Red Bull for their Canadian GP escapade right after the race ended. But Mercedes, who scored the P3 and P4 positions on the grid owing to their new front wing, walked away scot-free. Now, Red Bull has put forth a question about whether the W15’s new front-wings are even legal in the first place. According to sources, Mercedes’s newly introduced front wings did not cross the legal limits when the FIA performed their static checks.
Unfortunately for Toto Wolff’s team, Formu1a.uno has claimed Red Bull’s team of engineers, led by Paul Monaghan, believe the front wings showed more flexion than the initial specification at certain load ranges. Formu1a.uno has also stated that Red Bull has submitted an unofficial complaint to FIA to get them to check the Mercedes front wings more carefully. If the allegations prove to be true, Mercedes will be at a great disadvantage as the front wings had improved their Canadian GP results considerably.

In the Spanish GP, Mercedes is rumored to debut a new floor which might further amp up the W15’s performance. However, if Red Bull’s complaint goes through to the FIA, the front-wings might have Mercedes penalized in the end. That way, the Brackley outfit might be back to square zero as Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren have already surpassed them in the Championship rankings.
