If 2022 was a disaster for Charles Leclerc, then 2023 must be a nightmare! The Monegasque started the 2022 season off strong, however, by the end of it, Red Bull and Max Verstappen were miles ahead. Be that as it may, at least he was in contention! However, this year, not only is he already realistically out of contention for the 2023 title, but he’s also lagging behind his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz.

During the Qualifying session of the Canadian GP, Leclerc admittedly lost his cool and lashed out at the team as he failed yet again to progress through to Q2. The team and Leclerc later reconciled, but he’s still one of the hottest properties in F1 and has been linked with Mercedes in the past. His dismal record with the Scuderia and the interest from greener pastures should be enough to lure him away from the Prancing Horses. But in reality, it isn’t!

The Monegasque racing ace has been linked with a move to the Silver Arrows many times in the past. And with Lewis Hamilton’s current contract expiring this season, he is rumored to be making the switch to Ferrari. And after his Canadian GP antics, Leclerc seemed to have changed his mind.

Leclerc was recently quoted as saying, “To be honest, I never thought about looking at other options. Ferrari is the team that helped me get to where I am now. I’ve always been very happy to be in this team.” And he’s got two compelling reasons for it, too.

“I love Ferrari and I’m happy here.”

Leclerc may not want to leave, but that doesn’t mean the others aren’t going to try and force his hand.

With the timer running down on Hamilton’s contract, Toto Wolff must be evaluating all his options. That being said, when you have a 7x champion to negotiate with, you’ve got to be a bit coy whilst revealing your complete hand.

Sky Sports quoted Wolff as admitting, “Charles [Leclerc] is a super guy and for the long-term future someone you have to have on your radar but not for the short and medium term. Nobody doubts Charles’ ability and he is a good guy. He is 100 per cent committed to Ferrari and we are 100 per cent committed to putting pen to paper with Lewis [Hamilton].”
