Putting Ferrari aside for a second, in the current campaign, even if you say you’re not, you’re a Fernando Alonso fan. This seems to be the consensus, especially after the Spaniard has made a blistering start to the season. However, we were all aware o the two-time world champion’s prowess behind the wheel. However, his consistent podium finishes and powerful racing isn’t the only reason behind the hype. Then what makes Alonso’s F1 rebirth so endearing and why are there so many entities rallying behind the Spaniard? A German former racer has an answer for that.

Timo Glock, the former F1 driver, recently sat down with the German publication Bild to discuss the Spaniard. We have all seen instances of Alonso being an incredible team player and carrying an overall positive attitude. This shift in attitude from his anti-hero persona has come because of his stint away from F1 in Le Mans and IndyCar believes Glock, as quoted by Marca.

“I see Alonso more motivated than ever. He trains a lot and that’s why physically he looks capable of anything. He always has a smile on his face and is always positive, he has a lot to offer,” Glock begins. “Maybe taking a break from F1 for a while and racing at Le Mans moulded him to behave differently and helped him to be more of a team player. He used to be a more solitary guy. He still judges himself mercilessly, but he has understood well how to make the team behind him stronger. All this has made him an even better sportsman. And he’s on a completely different level as a driver, he doesn’t make any mistakes.” (Translated by Google)
