Lewis Hamilton has been the torchbearer for inclusivity in the sport of Formula 1. Needless to say, the platform he’s been afforded due to his exploits on and off the track has been used by the 7x champion for this cause. That being said, activism isn’t the only way Hamilton has led the charge. Ever so often, he’s highlighted people and their stories that deserve the recognition to further the cause that is so close to home for the Brit.

In the past, the 38-year-old has been the voice that has supported many black figures who’ve paved the way for others and inspired others to greatness. This time around, the Silver Arrows’ ace decided to shine the spotlight on the Canadian model, Winnie Harlow. It was a very special moment for the 28-year-old.

Harlow, a Canadian with Jamaican roots, launched her skincare brand Cay Skin in Canada. She took to her Instagram to share a series of pictures with her family. She captioned the post, “Bringing my brand I created @cayskin, home to Canada means a lot to me for many reasons.

“As a child of immigrant parents and grandparents, the sacrifices they made to allow me the opportunities I’ve had to do the things I have, and become the person I am, I can never repay them.”

And as a show of support, the 7x champ took to his own Instagram account to repost her post on his story. He wrote, “Proud of you Winnie” visibly beaming with pride.

Harlow’s journey in bringing Cay Skin to Canada has been traumatic, to say the least. Hence, the prompt acknowledgment by Hamilton.

Winnie Harlow’s story behind Cay Skin

Harlow has been an inspiration for many. Harlow suffers from Vitiligo, causing a lack of a pigment called melanin in the skin. But that hasn’t stopped her. However, in 2018, a traumatic experience gave birth to her brand, Cay Skin.

She revealed it to Byrdie.com. “It happened in 2018. I was shooting in the Bahamas sun for two days, and no one [on set] wanted me to reapply sunscreen because the ones we had left a blue or purple cast. When I finished the two-day project, I got back to my hotel and my skin was so red and tight.”

“Doctors had to come to the hotel room and give me injections for pain and inflammation. It was a traumatic experience.”
