McLaren have become one of the most improved teams in the recent history of Formula 1. After years of experimentation, the Woking-based manufacturer is back on track and heading towards further improvement.

This piece of latest news could potentially boost the McLaren brand on a considerable financial scale. In line with their goal to compete with Mercedes and Red Bull, a consortium of US-based investors could help lead the team’s charge.

A report by Sky Sports F1 states, “Sky News can exclusively reveal that MSP Sports Capital, whose partners have had extensive involvement in Major League Baseball, American basketball and European football, is leading a group that will inject £185m into McLaren Racing over a two-year period.”

McLaren could announce the deal as early as Sunday, which also coincides with the Abu Dhabi GP

The 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is set to be one of the most important races in recent times for the team. A good result in the race could only get sweeter by the announcement of this reported deal.

The report continues to say, “The deal could be announced as early as Sunday, according to sources, coinciding with McLaren’s most important F1 race for years.

“The new investment is expected to value McLaren Racing, which also competes in the INDYCAR championship in the US, at £560m after the injection of the £185m of equity. Sources said the consortium members included The Najafi Companies, a private investment firm, and UBS O’Connor, a hedge fund subsidiary of the Swiss investment banking giant.”

The team could win the race for P3 in the Constructors’ standings with a strong display

Going into Sunday’s race, McLaren sit just 10 points behind the current favorite Racing Point in the Constructors’ table. With a P4 and P6 achieved by Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz respectively, it is definitely McLaren’s race to lose from here on.
