Romain Grosjean will unfortunately not have his last hurrah before this season ends. Haas F1 had announced earlier this season that Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will replace Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen for the next season.
The decision meant that both Magnussen and Grosjean were left without a Formula 1 seat for 2021. Meanwhile, as Formula 1 moved to the last leg of the season, fans saw one of the most horrifying accidents of this century.
The Frenchman darted head-on into the barriers as his car split in two and caught fire. Grosjean was stuck in the fire for around 28 seconds. However, he walked away from the accident with minor burns.

Meanwhile, Romain Grosjean posted a heartfelt picture of the helmet he would’ve worn in Abu Dhabi. The helmet showcases drawings from Grosjean’s kids, Sacha, Simon, and Camille.
However, as a result of the accident, Grosjean had to miss the Sakhir Grand Prix. He really wanted to finish his season by crossing the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi. However, his injuries denied him that last ride.
Romain Grosjean relives the accident
Romain Grosjean talked about what happened after he skidded off the track. He was in the fire for 28 seconds. However, he clarified that it felt around 90 seconds within the flames. “I see a lot of orange and felt strange. It’s not sunset…, lights from the circuit? No,” Grosjean explained his thoughts before he realized that he was in the fire.

He admitted to remembering the late Niki Lauda’s accident, an unfortunate incident that left the world champion with significant burn marks. He pointed out that at one moment his muscles relaxed and he was at peace with himself as if his body was accepting death.

However, he revealed what motivated him to fight and get out of the fire. “I thought about my kids and I said No, I cannot die today… I have got to see them,” Romain recalled.
Romain Grosjean deserves his last hurrah. Mercedes has offered him a seat at Abu Dhabi if Haas or Renault can’t accommodate him. Hopefully, we’ll get to see Romain cross the finish line once more while wearing the special helmet before the season comes to a close.
