Lewis Hamilton is arguably one of the best Formula One drivers of all time. His achievements have transcended the sport and gained him recognition throughout the world. He won his seventh world championship at the end of the 2020 season, and it was the same year when it was announced that he would receive his knighthood. At the start of 2021, Prince of Wales, Charles presented him with his knighthood, making him Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Although receiving Knighthood is one of the biggest honors a person can have, Lewis is not done yet. After his outstanding Sao Paulo Grand Prix in 2021, there are reports he may receive honorary citizenship in Brazil.

After he won the race at Interlagos in 2021, Hamilton, in memory of his Brazilian hero Ayrton Senna, waved the country’s flag on his in-lap. This was a greatly heartwarming display for all the motorsport fans of Brazil. As reported by Metropoles.com, subsequent to the Brazilian GP, a bill regarding Hamilton getting his honorary citizenship in Brazil was presented in the chambers.

And to everyone’s surprise, 93% of people of the country are in agreement with granting Lewis honorary citizenship. But 6% are against the bill as they state that to become a Brazilian citizen one must have to spend more time in the country.

The Mercedes driver has a special connection with the country. He idolizes 3-time world champion and Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna. After he won the race, he paid tribute to the legend by wearing a helmet in his honor. The sentiment went down well with the public, and people said Lewis’ tribute to Senna was “absolutely fantastic”.

While attending the Dubai Expo recently, the British driver revealed that out of his 103 race wins, he rates the 2021 Brazil GP win highly. Lewis also emphasized the reason why he considers the 2021 win as one of the best.

“Brazil last year, I think. You know it’s crazy because I don’t remember every single race wins or even the failures. 2008 Silverstone was awesome. My first Grand Prix win in 2007, I remember looking down and watching my dad smiling up at me, and that was really deep for me. Because he was very very very a very very hard parent.”

“Not particularly like the most loving because he felt like he had to be at this solid rock always. But at that moment, I knew that I made him proud. But yeah, I think Brazil was something that I didn’t even know I had in me,” said Lewis.
