The Spa-Francorchamps circuit has always delivered some really polarizing, yet enthralling encounters. While the 2021 iteration of the Belgian GP would not be one remembered fondly by the fans, 2023 on the other hand is lining up to be a belter. With Max Verstappen looking fragile, there may be a chance for someone to sneak in an upset. That being said, irrespective of how the race tomorrow is billing up to be, Lewis Hamilton has been embroiled in a controversy that threatens to become a dark cloud for the event.

The Belgian Grand Prix witnessed its very first Sprint race weekend this time around. And if the stakes and peril weren’t high already, the track got hit with some sustained weather! Navigating through tricky conditions, Hamilton chanced upon the RB19 of Sergio Perez. While in the end, the duo of Perez and Hamilton did come together, it seemed innocuous to say the least. However, the stewards didn’t see it that way.

In what was already a tough weekend, Hamilton was running as high as fourth. He finished there, too. But the FIA snatched it from the 7x champion as he was demoted to 7th owing to his 5-second penalty for the incident with Perez. This was enough to catch the ire of the LH Army.

As soon as the final classifications were out and Mercedes tweeted the race results, fans rushed to the social networking site, Twitter to share their reactions. One fan even commented, “Absolute nonsense.” while the general sentiment asking for an appeal against this penalty from Mercedes’ end. Let’s take a look at just a few of the fan reactions from this Lewis Hamilton x Sergio Perez coming together.

Fans also brought in the context of Hamilton being dealt with a bad hand since the FIA allegedly favors the others over the Brit and the Silver Arrows.

All in all, the fans over at Twitter were not satisfied with the Brackley-based team just accepting such a harsh penalty that ruined a solid result for the 38-year-old. Naturally, they issued an urgent plea.
