Lewis Hamilton is suffering through the worst-ever stint of his F1 career in a Mercedes outfit. We are all aware it’s mainly due to the poor state of the W14. Despite that, the Brit has not been able to escape the criticism attached to the series of underwhelming performances. Many have suggested the Brit to retire, however, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has defended Hamilton at every step of the way. Now, this bond between Toto Wolff and Hamilton is receiving some criticism as well.

Award-winning sports writer Jonathan McEvoy for Daily Mail is the man criticizing this bond between the boss and its star pupil. In his latest article on the news outlet, the journalist appreciated George Russell for his substitute race for Mercedes back in 2020. McEvoy believes George Russell should’ve replaced Hamilton after the race in Bahrain.

“His (George Russell) race in Bahrain was perhaps the moment when Hamilton’s status slimmed down,” the writer points to Russell’s raid. “One could even say that a ruthless boss had fired him(Hamilton) on the spot. If you think that’s hard, remember how Luca di Montezemolo, then Ferrari president, sent Michael Schumacher away in 2006 as a 37-year-old with five titles in red.”

Wolff missed that opportunity with Hamilton, McEvoy argues. Therefore is critical of the Austrian boss and says, “He acted as a fanboy, not a ruthless boss.”
