“This is the hardest moment I can remember in my career, and it’s absolutely not easy,” said Logan Sargeant when asked about his car handed to his teammate Alex Albon for the Australian GP. The worst part was that Williams decided to punish Sargeant for Albon’s mistake. With only one car running (and no spare), they benched Sargeant instead of Albon- as Albon had scored 27 points as opposed to Sargeant’s one last year. Williams took this tough call back then.
However, the difficult calls didn’t end in Australia, and the rumor mill suggests Sargent will get fired in favor of young prodigy Kimi Antonelli.
According to F1 Expert and Accredited Joe Saward, Kimi Antonelli could replace Logan Sargeant from Imola because he’s under 18, the FIA should authorize it. It is common for Mercedes to put a driver in a Williams’ seat before they find him capable enough to promote him to Mercedes. Fans can relate it with Valtteri Bottas and George Russell as the Brackley outfit similarly scouted them. And as far as Kimi is concerned, Toto is hell-bent on not repeating the ‘missing out on a young prodigy mistake‘ as he did with Max Verstappen.

Talking about Kimi’s future, Toto Wolff said, “But yeah, [the test] is going to be there with a 2021 car. We want to give him the feeling of what a really good car looks like, and then we are going to put him in the 2022 car to see what the difference is! I’m really keen and happy to see him in a Formula 1 car.”
He continued, “He’s been with us since he was 11. I have a picture of him standing next to me on the center console as a baby boy in go-karting, and now to witness that development into a Formula 1 driver is something that I’m really proud of.” But this has not gone down well with the F1 fans.
Internet backs Logan Sargeant to Kimi Antonelli after Toto Wolff’s eye-opening decision
Logan Sargeant has not matched his teammates’ skills in his 1.5 years of F1 stint. But is that reason enough to replace him with a 17-year-old who hardly has any experience in F2, let alone F1? The cruel nature of the sport became apparent when this news surfaced, and F1 fans on X (formerly Twitter) didn’t agree with this.
Fans began by calling it a “mistake“, blatantly and urging that Kimi needed more time to develop.
This would be a mistake. Give him more time to develop as a driver.

A few even had Nyck de Vries flashbacks calling this step “cruel”
Replacing in the middle of season?! That’s too cruel

17-year-old Kimi Antonelli’s lack of experience is also a bit of concern for some.
F3 skipped, 3 F2 weekend, it seems not to be enough

To add to that uproar, it also appeared a shockingly unreasonable decision to some.
Nonsense!

And keeping in mind that Antonelli is yet to prove his mettle and Sargeant may still have a fat part of the season remaining, fans even called out the hasty nature of this decision.
Way to early Not worth to take the risk.
