Lewis Hamilton is a man of many talents. While driving a Formula 1 car may be his first love, music is not too far off from ruling his heart. Since he is a hip-hop fan and an R&B artist himself, some even wonder if he will take to music full-time post-retirement. Let us take a look back at when Hamilton almost entered the industry alongside one of his favorite rappers and Grammy winner J. Cole.

He attributes his love for music to the atmosphere of his household, where he grew up watching his father and grandfather keenly interested in music. His interest soon manifested itself into reality when he featured in Christina Aguilera’s 2018 song ‘Pipe’ with the pseudonym XNDA. But due to fear of being scrutinized, he only revealed his identity in 2020.

In 2012, a source had told The Sun (as quoted by nme.com), “Lewis had a great night with J Cole. He’s a massive rap fan and J is really into F1, so they’ve bonded quickly. They had a long dinner with a group of girls and the rapper’s manager.” Reportedly, the F1 driver had the intention to cement this newfound friendship in the studio.

Hamilton was still dating the ex-Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, when the plan to collaborate with J. Cole was being talked about. However, he brought that romantic connection to his songs in 2020, 5 years after the breakup. In an Instagram live, he previewed eight songs. The songs talked about women, drinking too much, and pulling on a night out.

“Caught you lying, it’s like a sad song on the radio. Breaking my heart, I can’t let it go.” is a line from one of his songs that debuted during his live. It was speculated that he may be addressing his heartbreak with his long-term ex-girlfriend, Scherzinger.
