Every dream run must come to an end. Mercedes’ unprecedented success of winning 8 successive championships was finally broken by Red Bull this year. The Milton-Keynes team secured the constructor’s championship in Austin with 3 races to spare. And as things stand, with this past season, Lewis Hamilton has now joined Michael Schumacher in an unwanted Silver Arrows record.

The last time Mercedes failed to win the title, a certain 7-time champion Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were the driver’s pair for the Silver Arrows. Ironically, the two GOATs have been part of Mercedes’ worst slump in their history. Mercedes finished P5 in the championship in 2012, whilst Schumacher finished P13 in the WDC.

Like Michael, Lewis suffered one of his worst seasons in F1 after he finished P6 in the championship. Furthermore, he also lost out to his teammate for only the third time.

However, their team principal Toto Wolff is not at all surprised at his team’s overall finish in the standings. The Austrian claimed that the Silver Arrows started the season handicapped against their rivals, Ferrari and Red Bull.

Mercedes will hope their strong second half of the season will inspire them to bridge the gap between Red Bull and Ferrari.

Red Bull’s Helmut Marko claims Lewis Hamilton will win again in 2023

Helmut Marko is a tough man to impress. However, in a surprising turn of events, the Red Bull advisor has praised Max Verstappen’s rival Lewis Hamilton. The Austrian also believes that the Silver Arrows will once again compete for race wins in 2023 and challenge Red Bull.

Helmut Marko said, “Ferrari is strong, but Mercedes will be stronger in the overall package. Especially with a driver like Lewis Hamilton. He’s still a top driver.”

Marko further continued, “True, Ferrari also has a very good driver in Leclerc, but he still makes mistakes.” He also said, Mercedes has fought its way up to us over the year. They’re not on a par with us yet, but they have more wind tunnel time to develop the car.”

Hamilton had a decent second half of the season as he picked up multiple podium finishes. However, he failed to stand on the top spot of the podium this season, which broke his 15-year streak of winning a race in every season he’s participated in.
