George Russell’s consistent display this season was one of the few positives for Mercedes this year. Despite not having a competitive car as compared to rivals Red Bull and Ferrari, the Briton stuck to his tasks well and managed to beat the 7-time championship winner and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton.

Moreover, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes that Lewis Hamilton might be forced to reconsider his future aspirations if the King’s Lynn boy beats the Mercedes legend again next tease.

The big question surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s future

The Mercedes pair struggled with many issues throughout the first half of the season. However, they managed to improve on their issues and fight back in the second half. Hamilton finished on the podiums multiple times while George Russell took home an impressive maiden win in the process.

However, Ralf Schumacher believes that Lewis Hamilton’s future may be in the dark. The 37-year-old is edging towards the twilight years of his career and Ralf believes Lewis might be forced to powder about his future if Russell beats him again.

The Turkish edition of Motorsports reported Schumacher saying, “What if George Russell is faster than Lewis Hamilton again next year? Will Lewis want to continue his career then? I think it will be exciting to see that.”

The German also stated, “Lewis has such a great value in Mercedes that it will be up to him to choose whether he wants to stay or continue with the team. Money won’t matter in his choice. I think the deciding factor is which driver the new Mercedes will fit better.”

The former McLaren driver has revealed no such intentions currently. Subsequently, he’s also in line to sign a new deal with Mercedes, as confirmed by Lewis and Toto Wolff. Moreover, the Briton recently admitted to hanging his helmet on one condition.

Toto Wolff jokes Lewis Hamilton could stick around to complete 400 races

Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton recently completed his 300th race in F1 last season during the French GP. Toto Wolff, the Silver Arrow’s boss believes that despite rumors surrounding the future of Lewis, he could stick around for at least 5 more years.

“We talked a few weeks ago about how long our partnership can go and the number that was discussed was five to 10 years, so we can get to 400,” joked the Austrian, quoted by the PA news agency.

Hamilton’s current contract expires at the end of next season. Moreover, Mercedes will hope to extend his contract beyond the end of next season this winter.
