As Sebastian Vettel continues to struggle big time, his teammate Charles Leclerc has been performing at a very impressive level indeed. The Monegasque put up one heck of a race. Having started in P8, he dropped down to P10 in the first lap. But he recovered beautifully.
Leclerc managed his tires brilliantly throughout the race, enabling him to stick to a one-stop strategy which culminated in a very well deserved P4 finish. He was understandably ecstatic after the performance he put in.
The Monegasque was heard on the team radio celebrating his P4 finish. He said, “Yes! Ahhh Yes! Oh yes, I’m so happy, so happy. What a race. Congratulations guys, amazing job. Again we maxed out what we have at the moment, that’s exactly what we need to do. Thank you so much.”

Concerned Charles Leclerc asks the team for information on Sebastian Vettel’s finish
Despite the friction that was seen between Leclerc and Vettel last year, the Monegasque sounded genuinely concerned for his teammate. Leclerc asked his race engineer for the top ten results of the race. On hearing Vettel wasn’t there among them, he queried, “Where is Seb?”
In fact, he was so occupied wondering where his teammate was that he didn’t even here who finished in the top 3. Leclerc said, “Can you tell me the top 3 again, I didn’t even listen.” That sort of thing tends to warm one’s heart, doesn’t it? You love to see a teammate worried about the other’s performance.

While Leclerc continues to outperform his car, Vettel’s predicament is painful to see. The German endured a rough time during all three practice sessions as well as qualifying. Starting the race in P11, things only got worse. After a spin-out on the first lap, he was fuming at Ferrari for the strategy they gave him.

At the moment, Ferrari‘s emotions would be bittersweet. On one hand, Leclerc continues to impress while Vettel struggles go on. They need to find a way to give Vettel a car similar in quality to Leclerc if they want this season to not be a complete flop. They can’t have one driver not earning points in a race while the other is close to a podium finish.
