Lewis Hamilton is a speed demon. And for those who have been following him for a while now, it’s safe to say that he is much more than an F1 driver. Hence, it should not come as a surprise that the 7x Champion uses his sublime talent to go fast for more than just open-wheeled racing behemoths.

Hamilton’s Formula 1 record is astonishingly staggering. The Brit has amassed 7 Titles & 103 Race Wins during the course of his reign as the undisputed GOAT of F1 racing. However, as he enters into the twilight years of his career, Hamilton aims to pursue something he only recently got acquainted with.

We’ve all seen Hamilton reach astronomical speeds on the tarmac of F1 circuits. However, now, he aims to conquer the skies. Recently, while filming a sponsor video for IWC Watches, the Brit got the opportunity to fly the Top Gun jet. “It was crazy. It was amazing” is how he summed up the experience.

He then went on to talk about his desire to make this a more frequent hobby for himself. “I can’t wait to do it again. I would love to do it more.”

Hamilton has also already ventured into the logistics of getting his own pilot’s license! “I’m already like looking into how and when I can get my pilot’s license.”.

Being a part-time jet pilot may only come to the Champion once he stops being a full-time racing driver. However, according to his boss Toto Wolff, there’s a long time before Hamilton will eventually hang up his racing helmet.

Toto Wolff adamant that Lewis Hamilton still has “another five years” to give to Mercedes in F1

If we are to see what happened in Abu Dhabi in 2021 and the entirety of the 2022 season, what Hamilton has done by sticking with the team and helping their resurgence is a true showing of his character. And this is exactly what Toto Wolff is banking on in terms of having faith in his star driver staying on and fighting for more championships, despite his age.

While speaking to Channel 4, Wolff was optimistic and rather adamant that the 7x Champion was not going to leave the Silver Arrows and F1 in a lurch anytime soon. He said, “We speak a lot together, and [a few weeks ago], we sat down and he says: ‘Well, I have another five years in me” while talking about Hamilton’s plans for the future.

He then went on to explain why it was critical to ensure that the Brit didn’t quit the sport anytime soon. “He’s the shining star in Formula 1, on and off track, I think we would lose the greatest personality that Formula 1 ever had.“.
