A resurfaced Istanbul Park was proving very difficult in dry conditions throughout Friday. However, the situation was much more challenging on Saturday. The rain ahead of Qualifying had drivers struggling for grip during their laps.

Although, Lance Stroll drove the best lap of his career under some of the most challenging conditions. He conjured an incredible lap to take the first pole position of his career. The Canadian’s performance for the Racing Point F1 team broke some records across Formula 1.

Lance Stroll shook up a few stats with his qualifying lap

Lance Stroll became the 5th youngest pole-sitter in Formula 1 history at 22 years 16 days old. The Canadian settled in behind the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, and Max Verstappen.

Lance Stroll took just 74 races for his first pole position. He has preceded the names of some Formula 1 superstars like Valtteri Bottas (79), Nick Heidfeld (90), Max Verstappen (92), Mika Hakkinen (93), Daniel Ricciardo (93), Nico Rosberg (110), and even Mark Webber (130).

Jacques Villeneuve was the first Canadian to take a pole position at Australian in 1996. His father, Gilles Villeneuve, was the first-ever Canadian to sit at a Formula 1 pole position.

Racing Point also have the first-ever pole, four races before they are rebranded as Aston Martin. They are having their best-ever start with Lance on P1 and Sergio Perez on P3.

Max Verstappen looked set to qualify at pole position during Q3. However, Perez and Racing Point’s gamble on intermediate tire paid off as he put in a quicker lap than the Dutchman.

He was 3 seconds clear off the grid, but Lance Stroll had different ideas. He put in 3 impeccable sectors together to beat his teammate and secure his first pole position. It remains to be seen whether the Canadian can turn this advantage into his first Formula 1 race win or not.
