The current Alpine driver recently opened up on driving in the same team as Verstappen. No, neither the Dutchman is coming over at Alpine nor Red Bull has decided to replace Sergio Perez with the Spaniard for next season. The team-up here, as unraveled by Alonso, is regarding the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
Talking about this, Alonso stated in an interview with De Telegraaf, “I know Max wants to do some endurance one day and I know he would like to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I’m certainly open to doing it together.”
“I think we should give the idea a chance if we can drive for a competitive team,” further asserted the two-time world champion in a report published by Marca.
Alonso, the 2005 and 2006 F1 world champion, however, has experience in racing in the Le Mans series. Regardless, Verstappen and Alonso on the same team might be a fine prospect, there’s no doubt about that.
Fernando Alonso believes Max Verstappen will find touching Hamilton or Schumacher tough
Despite the blistering performance, Fernando Alonso believes the path to F1 greatness will be hard for Max Verstappen. Even though the Dutch driver picked up 14 wins out of 20 races in 2022, it’ll need a lot more dominant performances from Verstappen to reach near the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.

Regarding this, the former Ferrari driver shared, “It will be difficult for him to reach the seven titles of Lewis and Michael Schumacher. Certainly, Max has the talent to get there, but you have to have a car that is very competitive for many years and you never have that guarantee.”
Admittedly, Hamilton and Schumacher, both have seven F1 world titles after years of domination in the best cars. While the Briton has 103 race wins, the German has 91. As compared to them, Verstappen just picked up his second F1 title and has 34 race wins in total so far.

Alonso also added, “Now, it’s easy. Everything points to Red Bull dominating in the next few years, but we don’t know for sure. Let’s see if Max has that luck.” It’s pretty clear that Verstappen has the advantage of having the best car underneath him. As stated by Alonso already, it’ll be interesting to see how Max Verstappen’s luck can save him year after year with the best car on the grid.
