41-Year-Old F1 Veteran Fernando Alonso Restricted by Age: “I’m Not 20 Anymore”

Fernando Alonso is regarded as one of the greatest drivers of his generation, if not the greatest. The Spaniard debuted in 2001, won two championships, and hasn’t looked back since. He always kept himself in contention for the win despite his age stacking against him. And as the sport continues to grow and become more challenging, he has kept himself in the game as hundreds of drivers came and went. 

The two-time champion finished ninth in 2022 and was denied the unofficial ‘best-of-the-rest’ position by Alpine’s reliability. However, Alonso is aware that as he gets older, he needs to change his training routines, travel plans, and events to meet the demands of Formula One. 

While speaking with the media and quoted by the GP Fans, he said, “I’ve had to change many things. The moment of my career now, the physical aspects, I have to change a few of my training routines, my traveling, events.”

He added, “Formula 1 is very demanding on energy off-track as well, so I have to really be more efficient on more of the things that I do on the weekends or in the weeks. On the physical aspect, for sure, I have to do much more than what I’m used to because I’m not 20 anymore.”
