A coach plays one of the most important roles in an athlete’s life. To succeed in a sport like F1, one needs to be mentally and physically up to the level week in and week out to stay on top of their game. Ask Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso, who have been successfully doing it for 15+ years now.

Of all the coaches and teammates in Lewis Hamilton’s career, Angela Cullen, his physiotherapist has been one of the most pivotal ones. She has been a regular figure in the paddock and the Mercedes garage. The Briton has often spoken highly about the Kiwi physio, who has been an immense figure in Lewis’ career. The duo have been together since 2016 and also have a ‘loyalty’ tattoo on both of them.
What does Angela Cullen do and how much does she earn?
There’s no surprise that Hamilton, who is worth $285 million, pays Angela around $100k annually for her excellent services. The Kiwi is not just Hamilton’s on-track coach, but also his off-track buddy. The seven-time F1 world champion also mentioned, “People for sure won’t understand it, naturally, because they see it from a distance, but she has been one of the greatest things that’s happened to me in my life.”
Cullen reportedly has a net worth of $15 million generated from her salary and additional income from deals and endorsements. She was also part of Great Britain’s Olympic team, after which she worked as a senior advisor at SPARC High Performance.
As Hamilton’s physiotherapist, Angela takes care of the 7-time champions’ diet, sleep behavior, coping with mental health, and traveling. Additionally, she also keeps the Mercedes driver active by indulging in various different activities from swimming, hiking, running, cryotherapy, and much more.

As reported by the F1 website, Hamilton revealed to Ziggo Sport, “I noticed that I was always having different problems. I’d have, like, muscle tightness in my neck, or I’d have problems with my lower back, or glute, whatever it might be, and my trainer could never fix it.”
He continued, “I was like, ‘This doesn’t make sense. I don’t need to train on the weekends.’ So I was like, ‘I need to find a physio.’ Angela had done a bit of work on me back home, so I spoke to her and asked her, ‘Would you like to come on the road with me?’ and little did I know that we would have the greatest partnership.”
Cullen has also been a great ambassador for women in F1, a project close to Hamilton’s heart as he fights to make F1 more diverse and inclusive.
