McLaren’s rising young star just made an appearance on a podcast few days back. He got candid in the chat as he shared some laughs and personal stories. The young lad talked about gaming, coping with covid-times, he also brushed up on how he found his way in the world of speed at a very young age.

Lando Norris had a long chat on PoTic Podcasts that hold over 2k subscribers. The men talked about the last race in Austin at the Circuit of Americas, Lando’s journey and his e-sports organization, amongst other things.

Lando was talking about how he’d been racing since the age of seven, and the men jumped at the opportunity to ask how he started his path in motorsports.

Norris shared, “I had a very different path. Three years old, I got put on a horse. Horseback riding?”
“As a jockey?” one asked. And Lando clarified he was three, he said, “Crying and just sitting there.”  The men had a riot as they laughed their guts out.

He continued, “Got a quarterback when I was four. Then I had that and then uh stopped that. Motorcross bike when I was six. So I did for like half a year, a bit more.”

“Then I went to go and watch a karting race. The British Championships. I went when I was probably almost seven. And I loved it. It was the first thing I actually want to watch properly and it was the best thing ever. I wanted to have a go . Uh seventh birthday, I got a go-kart and then that was me done. Fell in love with it,” he said in conclusion.

As the conversation progressed, Lando shared that he wasn’t that good when he started. He had to put in hours of endless practice at first. It took him over a period of about three to fours years until he started bagging any wins.

He looks back at how most kids were better than him at the tracks. So he worked on himself diligently until he started winning for Winston championships and more. As he made wins, it helped him gauge the attention of other teams, which helped him climb the ladder.

He then discussed how there were British races, national races and then the European ones. As he got to that stage, he’d started to do really well and this is when he first began thinking that he might actually be good. At this point, Norris was only 12-years-old.

Lando Norris has undoubtedly been showcasing a notice-worthy performance this whole season. With the consistent effort the young lad has been putting in, we’d have to watch and see how he navigates his position in F1 going forward.
