It has been a long time since an American drove as a regular in Formula 1. It could change next year. While there are still at least three names, including Mick Schumacher, being considered, the driver closest to signing for Williams is Logan Sargeant.
Whether that happens in the future is for time to tell, but at the moment, he has a golden opportunity to impress when he makes his Formula 1 FP1 debut on his home soil.
Logan Sargeant on making his FP1 debut at the COTA
Logan Sargeant is currently sitting in the 3rd position in the F2 drivers’ standings. With one more race to go, he will have to stay within the starting 5 positions at the end of the year to earn his super license to race in Formula 1. But for now, he can put that thought on the back burner and concentrate on his FP1 stint with Williams on Friday.
Actor Will Arnett recently interviewed Logan for the podcast Fast & Loose: F1. In the interview, he revealed his excitement about getting his hands on an F1 car in front of his home audience.
He said, “Yeah it’s a special moment, for sure. Something I’ve dreamed about forever. I drove a Formula 1 car before, but this time on home soil, it may sound weird but it gives a special feeling. It really does.”
“Hopefully, the atmosphere is going to be awesome which I’m sure will be.”
The 21-year-old is stoked to have his family at the venue to watch him. “That’s exciting. Obviously, my parents have been to a few races this year. My brother has come to a few which is always nice. So they all should be there to watch my first official outing.”
