Verstappen had two DNFs in three races he took part in. Interestingly, in both the times Max qualified in P2 and could’ve taken home two podium places with P2. That’s a loss of 36 points. These losses can prove to be crucial for the 24-year-old at the end of the season.
Talking about his championship defense and Australian GP race, Max conveyed, “We are already miles behind so I don’t even want to think about the championship fight at the moment. I think it’s more important to finish races. But we didn’t even finish the race so it’s pretty frustrating and unacceptable.”

Max Verstappen’s team principal agrees
Red Bull boss Christian Horner seems frustrated with three DNFs in six total outings. With two in Bahrain and one in Australia, Red Bull lost 51 points in the process. These lost points undoubtedly would be very crucial when the season comes to an end.

Talking about this, Horner stated, “But frustrating not to be bagging those points. We can’t accept DNFs (did not finish) but we need to understand what the issue is and address it.”
Max came down from P3 in the driver’s championship to P6 as his teammate Sergio Perez and two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell surpassed him after the race. Charles Leclerc leads the championship with 71 points, that’s 46 points more than what Verstappen collected.

As for Red Bull, they’re way behind leaders Ferrari at the moment. Moreover, arch-rivals Mercedes picked up a brilliant 27 points to go past them in P2 with 65 points. What’s more frustrating for the Milton-Keynes-based team is that they gifted two podiums to the defending F1 champion team. The Austrian outfit is currently in P3 with 55 points and winning the Constructor’s Championship from here would need some miracle.
