Max Verstappen’s 2022 season was flawless, of course, apart from the early-season reliability woes. But once the issues were thrown out the window, there was no looking back for him or Red Bull. Things went so smoothly that the title was sealed in Japan on October 9th, a good four races before the season finale.

The early closure of the championship race meant less stress for the team, which allowed Max Verstappen and the team to take up a new project before the next race in the United States. During the week’s break between the two races, Red Bull decided to make October 12th the Red Bull filming day, for which the Dutchman flew down to Imola, Italy.

In the company of David Coulthard, the team’s veteran, Max was to take Sebastian Vettel’s title-winning RB09 for a few laps on the track. The choice for the RB09 was made due to the regulations. But something that nobody anticipated happened. Due to the noise of the RB09 being much louder than the current version of the cars, the team raked up a fine of 500 euros or $543 due to local legislation.

As quoted by Corriere Bologna, Elena Penazzi said, “The Red Bull event was the only occasion on which the racetrack made noise in the past year, always remaining within the limit, despite the many activities carried out. On October 12, Red Bull showed up with a less recent car than the current one and the limits were exceeded. It was a few laps.”

The fine will however not be paid by the driver or the team since the fine will be imposed by the municipality on itself since it owns 100% of the track.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, was 50,000 euros, or nearly $55,000, which he received for examining the rear wing of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton during the highly heated 2021 season. The other fine imposed was worth 10,000 euros, or nearly $11,000, and was served alongside Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.

Max failing to collect a fine is an unlikely event to occur next year, for whatever reason. But for a fine as large as his $55,000 fine, he’d gladly take the $550 one.
