Who’s up for a bit of Formula 1 alternate history? It’s a mouth-watering prospect for Formula 1 fans and drivers alike. But then again, you’d be surprised to know that Daniel Ricciardo is not such a big fan of this idea after all.

Recently, the Formula 1 YouTube channel released a video asking drivers who’d they rather match up against. Peak Senna or peak Schumacher.

As you’d expect, Sebastian Vettel went for Schumacher while Carlos Sainz’s eyes lit up as he proclaimed he’d want both. Surprisingly, though, Ricciardo wasn’t having any of it.

“Neither,” said the 8x Grand Prix Winner. He went on to explain but could only muster up, “Peak Senna would’ve…neither”.

Many would read into this as a lack of confidence that has arguably been associated with Ricciardo since he joined McLaren from Renault in 2021.

Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren woes continue

Daniel Ricciardo’s stint at McLaren is plagued with misery. He was outdone by his British teammate Lando Norris last year. The nail in the coffin was the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix where the Australian was lapped by the Briton.

This year has not been any different. Norris is a whopping 57 points ahead of Ricciardo.

The Honey Badger is, however, well aware of his struggles and insists that he knows what needs to be done.

“We’ve certainly had some chats – that sounds too formal – we’ve spent some time together”

“It’s not like a once-a-year thing, or once every couple of months, but it’s also not like I needed a kick up the a***”

I’m not silly. I know where my results are and I know what’s good and what isn’t. It’s really them trying to see if there’s anything they could do to help.”
