Netflix’s Drive to Survive has done wonders in terms of making the sport a lot more popular all over the world. The series has managed to make the sport somewhat of a household name these days. Season 4 of the hit show has released on the 11th of March and the hype train is set to continue. The show has slowly helped F1 attain mainstream status in the US.
In the meantime, NASCAR is also looking to get its very own version of the hit Netflix title. And they kind of have as well. A new rendition of Drive to Survive with star driver Bubba Wallace.

Bubba Wallace for NASCAR
Bubba Wallace is among the up-and-coming names in NASCAR. The 28-year old is a fan favorite and a household name for the fans of the sport. Netflix is set to release a show called ‘Race: Bubba Wallace.” which will follow the driver throughout the busy NASCAR season.
According to a poll conducted by Morning Consult “, 63% of US adults [having] heard of Wallace, a larger share than any other active driver.” Netflix will be hoping to use Bubba’s popularity index to possibly create a domino effect, just like Drive to Survive.

The show will rotate only around Bubba and not the other NASCAR drivers. This might hinder the reach of the show. However, it is a step in the right direction by NASCAR, which is hoping to boost its popularity.
NASCAR viewership struggles
The series has seen its popularity steadily decrease over the years, only stabilizing in 2020. Since 2015, most 0f the NASCAR old guard has slowly retired from the sport, leaving the young blood to win over the fans. As NASCAR attempts to attract younger audiences, this approach is a tried and tested method to garner an audience.

Drive to Survive might have set the gold standard for such shows to follow. However, all the NASCAR fans would eagerly wait for the series to hit the OTT platform.
