Earlier, reports emerged that Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Larson was nominated for the annual ESPY Awards. During the NASCAR race weekend at Road America, the #5 driver finally responded to the news. He confessed that he has nearly forgotten about it but was happy to be nominated.

Larson said, “Guess I’ve kind of forgotten about an ESPY award or anything like that. Now we’re in July, so I had forgotten about it, but when I read that I was like ‘Wow! That’s really really cool and a great honor’.”
“I know there’s been a lot of NASCAR drivers to win the awards. So my fingers are crossed that I could win that. That would definitely be one of the coolest awards I could win.”
“Just being nominated alone is a great honor, but if I was to win it and beat and F1 world champion as well as he other champions. That would be just a great honor.”

Additionally, the 2021 Cup Series champion also talked about the likes of Max Verstappen. He mentioned that the Dutchman and his other fellow nominees had a good season.

Though Larson also confessed that he wondered if they would take into account all of his wins in the dirt racing arena. That comment evoked a fair amount of laughter from the media, especially when he said that he would have a better chance.
Coming to the subject of Road America, Chevrolet enjoyed a fantastic day in the office. This is because their five cars locked out the Top 5, with Tyler Reddick snatching his first win. The #8 Richard Childress Racing driver finished ahead of Hendrick duo, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson.

Finally, Trackhouse Racing drivers Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez were fourth and fifth, respectively. Meanwhile, AJ Allmendinger, down in ninth place, made it six Chevys in the Top 10. Ford populated the rest of the Top 10, while the highest Toyota was Martin Truex Jr in 13th.
