Motorsports and combat sports have one thing in common. The need for unreal commitment and putting everything on the line. Post his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk this past week, Anthony Joshua may be surprised by who Lewis Hamilton chose to root for. But in retrospect, he may understand why.

Anthony Joshua lost his rematch to Oleksandr Usyk last week. The fight went to the judges, and the Briton lost to the Ukrainian via a split decision. 7-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton took to Instagram to express his opinions on the fight.
Posting to his Instagram story after the fight, Hamilton showered praise on the fighter from Ukraine, Usyk. “This guy’s humble and a true champ.” He also complimented the fight by adding that it was “such a great fight.”

It would come as a surprise that Hamilton was rooting for Oleksandr Usyk and not his fellow countryman Anthony Joshua. However, Hamilton had tons of encouragement for Joshua too in his Instagram story.
Lewis Hamilton’s words of comfort to Anthony Joshua
After his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch, Anthony Joshua broke down in his post-match conference. The Briton was seemingly and understandably unconsolably. However, Lewis Hamilton had a few words of consolation for Joshua.

In his Instagram story, Hamilton began by saying, “The hardwork and sacrifice is something nobody will be able to understand.”
He then went on to say how proud he was of Joshua before concluding by motivating him to come back stronger. “It’s not how we fall it’s how we get up and you will bounce back from this brother. Keep your head up.”

Greatness recognizes greatness. Hamilton saw what Usyk achieved, but he also knows how to empathize with losing. Irrespective of the result, this was an exemplary showing of sportsmanship by one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.
