We are talking about the Monaco charity soccer match which is played a week before the Monaco GP. Because of the unexpected respite from Imola, the F1 stars utilized the time by keeping up the old tradition. However, during the charity match, Charles Leclerc made a blunder which earned him plenty of criticism.

The Ferrari man was leading the F1 11 in the Monaco World Stars Football Match played at the Stade Louis II. He was playing against the team, led by the tennis legend Novak Djokovic. The 22-Grand Slam-winning tennis star had an equally star-studded team as the Monegasque. However, Leclerc stole the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

As we can see in the video posted on Twitter, Leclerc missed a one-on-one chance against Djokovic’s team. The Monegasque struck the ball straight into the goalkeeper’s path, forcing an easy save.

The simple tap-in was set up by none other than Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz for the goal. The Spaniard who scored a brace in the previous edition was in the mood to assist one goal for his teammate. However, Leclerc couldn’t convert the clear-cut opportunity.

This missed opportunity quickly earned Leclerc the fury of the fans on Twitter and it’s not looking good for the Monegasque.

The Monegasque has not had the best record on home soil on track. Leclerc has put his car in the barriers or has been unable to finish the race on the Monaco street circuit almost every year since his debut in the premier class. He broke the curse in 2022, as he paid his dues by crashing into Niki Lauda’s vintage F1 challenger in a charity race.

Turns out the curse follows him in every field of sport as he showcased in the charity football match. The missed goal-scoring opportunity is proof of that. However, his poor luck did not save him from the fury of the fans. In fact, one user even said Leclerc has “mastered the art of bottling.”
